Adding Foods to Increase Calories

Butter/Margarine, Cream Sauces/Gravies, Cheese and Cheese Sauces

Add to soups, mashed and baked potatoes, hot cereals, grits, rice, noodles, cooked vegetables, stir into cream soups; add to cooked meats, hamburger, fish or egg dishes.

Whipped Cream

Add to hot chocolate, desserts, puddings, waffles, pancakes,; use as a dip for fresh fruit

Heavy/ Whipping Cream

Add to cereal, cream soups, sauces, scrambled eggs, batters, puddings or custards, mix with pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, replace milk with cream in recipes.

Sour Cream

Use as a dip with vegetables; mix with brown sugar, refrigerate for a while, and use as a fruit dip; add to baked potatoes, macaroni and cheese, salad dressings, sauces and stews (e.g.. beef stroganoff, beef paprika.)

Mayonnaise and Salad Dressing

Use in sandwiches; spread on fish or meat before baking; add to a variety of salads (i.e. macaroni salad.)

Honey, Jam and Sugar

Add to bread, cereal milk shakes, yogurt smoothies; use as a glaze for ham or chicken

Dried Fruits and Fruit Desserts

Serve dried or cook in sugar water to soften and serve in cereal; as a snack or dessert. Serve fruit pies and ice cream; add fruit to muffins, topped with icing.

Eggs

Add chopped, hard cooked eggs to salads, dressings, vegetables and casseroles; make egg custards as a dessert, top with fruit (fruit tarts); add extra eggs to recipes for custards, puddings, quiches, omelets or waffles.
